ARTIST INSPIRATION:   On the north shore of Kauai, past Hanalei at the end of the road there is a foot trail used since ancient times.  Hanakapiai is the first beach you come to on this coastal trail to Kalalau Valley.  After the two mile hike there is a definite sense of accomplishment on arriving at this beach.  It is noticeably different from driving to a beach and the view reflects that difference, there are no man made objects.  The lush cliffs you have just descended from are finally relieved by this wide expanse of sand.  Great rounded boulders line the stream cascading from the valley above.  Up above that valley is Mt. Waialeale a major contender and often title holder of the wettest spot on Earth.  The stream joining the ocean is inviting but the sandy floor drops away quickly into the deep blue sea.  There are caves in the cliffs, more hala, guava and ginger than you could possibly count.  It seems so untouched by man, so touched by God.
